Andover After School Program

Andover After School Program is held in the afternoon after school gets out at the Andover Elementary/Middle School.

Snack

Upon arriving a simple nutritious snack is provided daily. Children may also wish to bring their own.

Recess

Snack is followed by outdoor play each day. The Andover Village Park surrounds the building, giving many opportunities for outdoor fun.

Homework Policy

Quite time is scheduled for half an hour each day when children are asked to do homework or read or be read to. An appropriate homework area is available to each child. Program staff encourage children to complete homework, provide an environment conducive to its completion, and give help as appropriate. However, the staff can not take responsibility for homework undone.

Activities

Each child’s afterschool needs are different. Some children arrive with high energy and need to be active, some wish to relax and talk with friends, and others require a time to do nothing at all. The program’s schedule is flexible and respects the differing needs of the children attending.

Activities include:

  • Craft materials such as paper, glue, markers, yarn and recyclables are always available, and projects will be presented with an emphasis on creativity.
  • Blocks, puzzles, dress-ups, musical instruments and games are abundantly available.
  • There is a quiet and comfortable area for the enjoyment of books.

Arrivals

Each afternoon at 2:45 pm the K-3rd grade after-schoolers will be accompanied from the elementary school to our facility by program staff. Fourth grade and older children check in with the staff at AEMS and walk over by themselves. Children must be signed out each day.
